(38,958 posts)will become more and more prevalent as time moves on. We will see some major disruptions in the next few years to the education and medical sectors both due to this virus, automation and the advance of AI.

(6,110 posts)I am familiar with Udub, both my kids graduated from there. Students just need to practice common practices such as washing hands and avoid handshakes etc. covid-19 is not known to kill 18-25 year old healthy young people (99% of student body). Only those students who have compromised health situation should be given opportunity for virtual classes. Why deprive 99% of the others of the opportunity to attend classes and attend labs. Students in Udub are in great shape in general because of all the walking they must do to get around that very large campus. I am a fast walker but had trouble keeping up with my kids during visits to campus. I was really impressed how good shape both were at Udub. If one staff member has tested positive, makes no sense to keep hundred thousand or so students away.

If ONE faulty member has the virus that person as passed it on to others and NO WAY do I want my son in ANY DANGER of contracting the virus. Thank God he has the skills to work remotetly from home and has been told to stay home. He has six chidren in his home and a beautiful wife.....no way do I want my grandchidren or my daughter-in-law exposed if my son got sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(6,110 posts)that is not the same as taking rights away from tens of thousands of other students who may prefer to attend classed and laboratories in person.

(7,575 posts)about how quickly this virus can spread.....really useless waste of time trying to reason with a denier who has no children or grandchilden currently on the campus. I am extremely happy my family will be safe,

(6,110 posts)visiting Japan, S Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for a 16 day vacation with 2 friends.
They all took usual precautions like washing hands frequently with soap, drink only bottled water,
etc and had no problems with covid-19 or any other disease.
Note this important statistics from Hubei province in China which is ground zero for the covid-19.
Hubei province is smaller than Nebraska, but has 10 times more people crammed into it than Nebraska.
Guess how many people in Hubei province where city of Wuhan is located, tested positive for covid-19 so far?
1 in 1000. Wuhan city is where that lab is located who was doing research on covid-19.
In good old USA there are total 40 or so confirmed testing positive for the virus out of a population of 330 million.
Me and my wife came back last Saturday from a week long cruise from Jacksonville to Bahama's. It was full of 2400 passengers having a great time, I did not witness a single person wearing mask on the ship! I will soon turn 80, and I am living a normal life, going on cruises every 3 months. I wash my hands and avoid handshakes. I refuse to crawl into a shell. I have lived through malaria, smallpox, influenza epidemics growing up in India, and the SARS & Ebola pandemics while in United States. I take normal precautions and go on living. I would not like living in a country like China where gov't forces rules on your life.
