Senator Patty Murray proposes emergency legislation to give workers paid sick leave
The spread of coronavirus has given U.S. Sen. Patty Murray an opening to perhaps finally pass paid sick time leave legislation.
As the virus continues to spread, Murray on Friday introduced emergency paid sick leave legislation to provide paid sick days immediately to workers.
The legislation requires all employers to allow workers to accrue seven days' paid sick leave and to provide an additional 14 days available immediately in the event of any public health emergency like the current crisis.
As of Friday there were confirmed coronavirus cases in more than 18 states. The virus has caused 12 deaths, with 11 of those in Washington state, which Murray represents.
