WH economic adviser Larry Kudlow: coronavirus is 'contained,' Americans should 'stay at work'

President Trump's economic adviser Larry Kudlow is continuing to claim the COVID-19 coronavirus is "contained" as the number of cases in the United States passes 230 across 21 states.

Kudlow in an interview with CNBC on Friday said he will "argue" the new virus has been "contained" in the U.S., repeating the assertion he made last week as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was warning that the new virus could soon severely disrupt everyday life. "We don't actually know what the magnitude of the virus is going to be, although frankly, so far, it looks relatively contained," Kudlow told CNBC on Friday.

Kudlow also said "America should stay at work," arguing that the private sector is "going to solve this disease" and again reiterating, "I will still argue to you that this is contained. It can't be airtight, but ... in a relative sense, relative to our population, relative to ordinary flus ... I think it is relatively contained."

CNBC host David Faber challenged Kudlow on his claims throughout the interview, at one point telling him that the coronavirus is "much more serious than the flu, as you know." Faber also told Kudlow that "it's very hard to say whether it really is in any way contained or whether we are not all at risk,"
to which Kudlow responded, "Well, I'm not sure where you're going on that."

Odds favor not catching it---IF---you take normal precautions such as
1. avoid handshakes
2. wash hands with soap & warm water after touching anything others might have touched
3. if you can not avoid touching something such as a door handle/knob, to enter place of work,
use your left hand (assuming right handed) and do not touch face with left hand, then wash hands.
4. avoid all crowded places if possible. If you can't wear a mask there.
5. if over age 60, be extra cautious.
With these precautions your chances of catching this virus drop significantly.

So everything they do a transaction at the register they wash their hands? In the sink that takes 5 minutes to walk to and wash their hands? And you don’t get sick days and no vacation.

Your suggestions are totally legit. I agree. But since we have a healthcare industry rather than a healthcare system, we are going to have sick people going to work.

If you wear gloves and touch your face it is no different than hands.

Notice how your doctor or dentist after using gloved hands that potentially can be exposed to bodily fluids immediately wash their hands after removing their gloves?

Wear gloves all you want. But they are no better then washing your hands and not touching your nose or mouth.

The danger with gloves is that people think the are some magic protection. They are as unsanitary as hands put in the same situation.

Such Gloves are great when the retail clerk is coming in contact with objects or skin from multiple customers.
The clerk can not go wash hands after every transaction. Of course the MOST IMPORTANT PREVENTION is never touching your face with hands. Eyes, nose and mouth are like welcome door mats for the virus/bacteria to invade the body.

But would add that just as virus and bacteria can’t penetrate gloves, they can’t skin either. And germs can build up on gloves just as they can on skin.

The danger with non-trained people wearing gloves is that they think gloves somehow repel viruses and the do things they would not do barehanded. Like rub their nose.

Test kits are necessary only if infections have already occurred.
What is needed more is educating people how to reduce chances of getting infected in the first place.
I still am seeing people not washing hands in Walmart rest rooms and just the other day,
I was in Chili's restaurant, a worker came in to pee and walked out without washing hands.
Average person touches face 27 times in an hour....that is the Achilles heel right there.

Dipshite....just take a look around you. Why don't you go into the cruise ship in SF? I will pay your way for a 10 day stay.

It's because of your administration's bungling of this that we are in the situation we are in. Folks are panicking, and it is ONLY because no one trusts you, Trump, Pence, or anyone in your administration. This is why you will lose in November, and several of you will be going to jail in 2021.

Larry: please accept my offer for the cruise! You look like you could use a vacation. Show us that this epidemic has been arrested.

(For those poor souls and their families affected on the cruise and generally: please know I wish you the VERY, VERY best.)

... fodder to the fake "fake news" meme. I say the Title was misleading because it left out the crucial beginning of the sentence:

"We don't actually know what the magnitude of the virus is going to be, although frankly, so far, it looks relatively contained," Kudlow told CNBC on Friday.

"Kudlow also said "America should stay at work," arguing that the private sector is "going to solve this disease"

It's easy to read this as if Kudrow were saying Americans should go to work even if companies or local health authorities advised against it. I don't think that's what he meant, given the rest of the quote. I think that would qualify as "panic," not "preparedness.

Let's not stoke the fires of division. It reduces credibility when we do have a horror story to report.
