Florida woman charged with changing party affiliations of voters
Link to tweet
CLERMONT A central Florida woman is accused of submitting false voter registration information that switched the party affiliations of voters without their knowledge, sheriffs investigators said.
Cheryl A. Hall, 63, who worked for an organization that helps register voters, turned herself in to Lake County Sheriff's officials Thursday, according to court records. She's charged with 10 felony counts of submission of false voter registration information.
A day earlier Lake County officials had announced that 119 false voter registration applications had been filed, news outlets reported.
Hall submitted the forms to the Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office, authorities said. Elections officials flagged the forms because they included incorrect information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers or driver's license numbers.
Some of the forms changed the registrations of Democrats or no party affiliation to Republican, officials said.
Sheriff's investigators said all 119 false forms were assigned to Hall, a registered Republican, to collect. She worked for Florida First's office in Winter Haven. The agency said in an emailed statement that it is working closely with elections officials to ensure every voter is properly registered to vote."

(50,928 posts)they can't vote in the Democratic Primary. If they thought the person would support a Democratic candidate they didn't want to win.

(14,750 posts)Just changing parties doesn't accomplish anything. If she did it to get people unregistered, then how did she get their names and addresses?
How organized is this? How many states is this being done in?
Every voter needs to verify registration info prior to voting. I know it's a burden, and largely impractical, but with all the shenanigans it's a must if you can take the time.

Agree with you every voter needs to verify their registration info to make sure all is correct before November 2020.

(15,330 posts)and make them subject to social media manipulation?
I can see how they could use this to their advantage.
Additionally, when they publish the percentage of voters registered as Democrat, Retrumplican or independent, it could make it appear that the Retrumplican Party was more popular i.e. "normal" then it really is?
Could possibly make vote counting switches easier if they can say "Dipshit Retrumplican won by 50 votes, but that's to be expected since there are more Retrumplicans registered in this district.
She didn't do this for nothing...AND...she didn't do this without local Retrumplican Party knowledge or encouragement.

(38,187 posts)That is not a mugshot. It's a smugshot. Look how smug she is. They are proud of themselves when they break the law and do horrid things to take away the civil rights of others. They keep saying we want to take their guns and their fetuses away from them when really, we never do and never will. On the other hand, they gladly take our rights away, every.chance.they.get.

(36,464 posts)And this is what's so unforgivable about the people I know who still identify as and support the republican party. They support the silencing of people they disagree with. Oh they can say they think the GOP runs the country better, or that they think taxes are too high, or any other number of "rational" reasons, but in the end they are still A-OK with silencing the voices of people they disagree with. I told one of my right wing cousins that and he had no response. Not one word to defend himself because he knew it was indefensible. So what does that say about him? And how can you respect someone who is OK with that?
This is not a difference of opinion, like some people claim politics is. This is a different world view. A different view of your fellow human beings and your relationship to them. This is a competitive world view vs a cooperative world view. This is you're on your own vs we're in this together. This is might makes right vs treat others the way you want to be treated.
Exactly. They want to destroy us. It is not merely a difference of opinion. It is their feeling that they should be able to wipe us out and get away with it. They don't even see most of us as human beings.

(4,461 posts)... to create inconsistent personal data in the registration data base that could be used to challenge the voter? Wrong birthdate, wrong address ... hmmmm, you cant vote until we get this straightened out. Maybe changing to republican was also to give cover to the scheme - it would look on paper like republicans were being denied the vote ???
I wonder if this was her idea?

(22,801 posts)Meanwhile they use voter fraud as an excuse to suppress the Democratic vote.
BigOleDummy
(2,270 posts)And actually what I was just getting ready to comment on. Why is it ALWAYS the repuglican party that does the voter fraud? All the time they scream from the rooftops the the elections were and are stolen. Sounds like a serious case of projection to me.
What we need to be wary of is when they stop letting yahoos like this do the work and get some real competent people. Then we'll have a serious problem.
Always , always always the right doing voter manipulation/fraud/suppression. ALWAYS!

(2,023 posts)It's because Republicons always cheat to get their way. Gerrymandering, voter suppression, endless bogus investigations, poll watchers intimidating and bullying minority voters ...
I just remembered some years back when they got that bill passed in the House, I think it was Medicare Part D, by not gaveiing the vote closed when the bill was narrowly defeated. The Republicon speaker just held the voting open while the Republicon House whip went around the floor of the House, twisting members' arms to get them to change their vote, and then, of course, at the moment when two or three fence-sitting congresscritters changed their vote and the bill was at that moment barely "passing", that is when the speaker gaveled the vote shut.
I've always thought, that's like in a baseball game when the home team is behind after nine innings, they decide to play another inning ... and then another, and then another, until the home team finally is ahead at the end of the 12th inning, or the 13th, or the 18th, and THEN, of course, they declare the game "over" and the home team "won".
Republicons in the House did this again some time later, and I remember hearing about it on the news, Democratic House members started shouting, "SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!" But of course, that didn't stop the Republicons, the cheaters and liars and vote thieves they are, they did it anyway and that bill also "passed".
Another baseball analogy: I am an Atlanta Braves fan and I often think about the 1996 World Series, when the Yankees beat the Braves in six games. The Braves actually scored more runs in that series than the Yankees did, but that's because game one was a blowout in favor of the Braves, and all the other games were competitive. But I've always thought, take a couple of runs from game one and add them to game five, and the Braves win that game 2-1 instead of losing it 1-0, while still winning game one by a comfortable margin. Then take two or three more runs from game one and add them to game four, and the Braves win that game instead of narrowly losing it in extra innings. And the Braves then win the series in five games instead of losing it in six!
Any baseball fan will agree that doing this is CHEATING. Whatever the fan's political beliefs, NOBODY could argue that it's all right to do this. And yet, it is EXACTLY what Republicons do when they gerrymander legislative districts to their advantage. Think about it! I'm not going to try to claim that gerrymandering is something Democrats never do, but in recent years Republicons have turned it into an art form. I have heard that they have computer programs that draw districts to maximum Republicon advantage.
I guess I'm through venting my spleen for the moment...
