(39,313 posts)And the million dollar ransom? That story has gone poof.

(3,056 posts)Larry Flint offered to put it up. I think it would be great, but I'm not entirely sure the whole "we have your tax returns" wasn't a bluff.

(4,113 posts)If Mitt would release his last 10 years of tax returns, I think it would expose how he and others in his income bracket get away with paying little if any federal income taxes. And I think it would open at least some of the peoples' eyes and minds who would have otherwise voted for Romney, and possibly create a groundswell of cries for change for tax fairness.
Why do you think there's such a budget shortfall everywhere? It's not just spending. Between the masses of the people being unemployed or underemployed from what they were in the past, while the uber-wealthy get away with paying a pittance of a percentage of their taxes because of how they've rigged the system, there has to be a void in the revenue stream in our state, federal and local governments.

(570 posts)and then taking the Foreign Tax Credit deduction to pay less here in the U.S.
When have we ever had another candidate who has off-shored jobs, off-shored investments, off-shored his banking, and off-shored his taxes? Sounds like an ex-patriot wannabe!

(3,056 posts)The one year that he released showed him paying taxes to foreign governments.. The Obama campaign should be screaming this from the roof-tops.
There's absolutely NO doubt in my mind that his tax returns show either, a) he's paying either no taxes to this country, or a very, very small percent, probably less than 10%, or b) he's not tithing enough to his church and he doesn't want them to find out as it would cost him his Stake Presidency. Hell, about 20 years ago, when my late husband was making some serious money (over 100K/year), we only paid an average of about 11%. And that was with us doing our own taxes, and using the basic deductions available to us. I'm sure if we had a team of accountants working on them, we could have gotten away with less than 5%, or nothing at all.
Romney is a classic example of the "entitled" class in this country, just like Bush. They think they're above the rest of us because of their wealth. We're the "little people" that Leona Helmsley referred to, and only we pay taxes.

(570 posts)Towards the top of these forms, it simply says "Various Countries" and between the four there's almost a half million in foreign taxes that can be deducted off his U.S. tax returns. And deduct it he did.
His incomplete 2011 tax returns have a page that the Romney's expect to have foreign tax credit but it can't be calculated at this time.
Interestingly, while he hasn't completely taken down his and Ryan's tax returns off his campaign website, you can no longer get to them from the main page. You can still see them at the following link:

(9,298 posts)how much grief morning, noon and night a Democratic candidate for ANYTHING would be getting if (s)he refused to release tax returns. I really hope this issue comes up in the debates, but with the lamester moderators, it will be up to Obama to do it. And he should.

(5,810 posts)What are you hiding?
Why won't you share the information about your tax situation?
This is a no brainer. The Democrats need to hammer him over and over with this....not unlike they did to Obama with the birther issue. They should be relentless in bringing home the idea to the voters that Romney is hiding something in his tax returns and that we DO have the right to know how much he paid AND HOW MUCH HE AVOIDED PAYING due to his various investments that shielded him from paying his FAIR SHARE.
He got to do what the rest of us cannot and he is actually proud of that, although he can't really BRAG too much. If he tells us exactly how he did it (and his tax returns would REVEAL it), then he is going to have more explaining to do to the rest of us little people. As Ricky says to Lucy.......You got some 'splainin' to do.

(2,842 posts)if not the main theme. It hits home to the majority who are struggling to stay afloat or rise to the surface.
Almost half of the people making $90,000 are deferring needed medical services. 40% of those insured are
deferring needed medical services because of the high co-pays and Miff & Muffy won't show us the tax returns?
Miff showed them to Senator Grumpy.
Why not us? Why not us?

(45,984 posts)Even if he released them, I still wouldn't vote for a man who thinks corporations are people, made a living as a corporate raider, stands on a platform that would reward banks for criminal behavior, picks an Ayn Rand devotee as a running mate and can't open his mouth except to eat or lie.
