Trump is counting on the Supreme Court to save him

Only one time in 20 cases since 1890 did the Supreme Court rule that Congress exceeded its constitutional limits and that was effectively overturned in 1962.

If this court favors Trump then we are truly living in an authoritarian society now.

Sometime before June 29, 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court will either plunge the United States into the severest constitutional crisis of the Trump years—or save Americans from that crisis.

Three different committees of Congress, as well as New York State prosecutors, have issued subpoenas to President Donald Trump’s accountants and bankers for his tax and business records. Trump has sued to stop the accountants and bankers from complying. He has lost twice at the district-court level and twice at the appeals-court level. Now he is looking to the conservative majority on the Supreme Court to rescue him.

On March 31, the court will hear oral arguments in the cases of Trump v. Mazars and Trump v. Deutsche Bank. The decision will be rendered sometime between then and the court’s summer break.

I think it has been proven that we can no longer rely on the Supreme Court and CJ Roberts to care enough about their legacy and the rule of law to do what is best for our country and it’s people.

Republicans acting like a Dictatorship for this country is a good thing, they are all traitors...
we don't need a king. Maybe we might have to bring back the firing squads... or guillotine or just a fucking LONG jail sentence for TREASON.

YES..i said it. Treason.

All these MFer's need to be tried, convicted and punished for treason. They are systemically dismantling government. Everything that the United States of America stands for is in peril. It will take decades to get back to the place we were a mere three years ago. Its taken 35-40 years for this to happen and it will take another generation for things to change. But first, this country needs to come to grips with how knowledge and kindness has taken a back seat to stupidity and hate . Its a tall order that I don't see changing anytime soon.

idiots continue to WORSHIP Trump. They no nothing how a government works, and would scream the loudest when they finally get their wish, and this country is in ruins. I am glad I live in CALIFORNIA, we might have to become our own country if and when Democracy withers on the vine.

Trump
Mitch McConnell and
all the traitors in the Republican party, like Lindsey Graham, Matt Gates, and other assholes...should be tried for Treason.

The right will continue to support and worship Trump no matter what. They have too much of an emotional investment to turn back. If they did, they would have to admit that they had been fools. If thing go really sour, the right wingers will seek out those who stabbed the country in the back, and those will be us. They will feel justified in enacting a final solution to the liberal problem. We are now reliving 1933 in Germany.

We are sailing in very troubled waters. The coming election is our last thin hope. Failure will be a disaster. People will have to make the choice of becoming a hammer or a nail.

have shown us over and over again that they are political operatives masquerading as impartial arbiters of justice. There is no reason to think that anything will change.

trumps been trying to corrupt the GOP justices on the Supreme court one way or another . Calls to Roberts, I'd bet on that. Threats to retire so he can replace them , yep. We haven't seen nothing yet on how he's been doing things regarding the Justices of the Supreme Court, but I bet we will.

then the Executive can just as easily ignore the Judiciary, which Trump has threatened.

It's about checks and balances. I could see the court trying to come up with a very narrow ruling but any ruling that favors Trump also says presidents are beyond reproach.

If they rule in such a way, if the Democrats take back the Senate and the presidency, we should immediately start impeachment inquiries into the Trump appointed justices to see if there was any promises made to Trump in exchange for the nomination.

That the current SC will insulate Trump from the law, therefore making the US a Kingdom. I has been being set up for such a move for a while. If the President is above the law, then there is no law. If Trump wins the election, legitimately or by hook and crook, and the courts hand him immunity from justice, then it will be time for barricades and pitchforks because we will not longer have a legitimate justice system or government.

If the SC was wise and fair, they would delay any ruling until after the elections and then let the lower courts deal with criminal law. As far as I am concerned, we don't need to persecute Trump, just remove him and his fellow travelers from power. I will be happy if he becomes just a nasty footnote in a history book, a reference to how quickly things can go bad if the people are caught sleeping. I don't care if we pardon him for his crimes as long as he is swept out with the other trash.

Make no mistake, we are reliving 1933 in Germany. We only have one thin chance of avoiding unmitigated disaster.

The Supreme Court's reputation as an objective, independent party was hard-earned and the Republicans are going to hide behind that monolith of perception. When they get criticized by Democrats for destroying that reputation it will be Republicans from Congress or Trump who will claim they're shocked, SHOCKED!

Fuck you all. We can see what you're doing and we're going to call you out on the ruse. You're not conservative by definition, which is to believe in and protect traditions. You're all about gaming the system in order to enforce radical change. You are the opposite of progressive. Not moving forward, but backwards to a time when white males dragged their knuckles on the ground and everyone else feared them.

Excerpt...

On December 4, 2017, a German newspaper reported that Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russia’s interference in the presidential election, had subpoenaed Deutsche, demanding records related to its relationship with Trump. Within hours, a number of American news organizations had published their own stories, with anonymous sources confirming that Mueller’s office had issued the subpoenas.

Trump woke up that morning, scanned the headlines on his phone, saw the news about the subpoena, and exploded. “I know my relationships with Deutsche Bank,” the president barked at his lawyer, John Dowd, in a 7 a.m. phone call. After reciting the loans’ details, Trump added: “I’m telling you, this is bullshit!” Dowd organized a phone call with Mueller’s team. One of the prosecutors assured Dowd that the news reports had been wrong; Mueller’s team hadn’t subpoenaed Deutsche for Trump’s records. Word of Trump’s fury circulated around Washington. To any government official paying attention, this was a powerful signal: Investigate Deutsche and risk the president’s wrath.
