For just that reason. Too many people in too close quarters plus recirculation air equals too many germs.

on an empty ship . . . for more than a month.

But that is assuming that the other passengers woke up and decided not to hop on board.

So we'll probalby have more floating cities that become infected, then hang out off-shore because "it's not our fault" so we dont' have to let them dock

My name is Karl Glocken, and this is a ship of fools. I'm a fool, and you'll meet more fools as we go along. This tub is packed with them...

There is a minimum speed to maintain steering and the captain will maintain that in order not to be adrift. That speed will vary with conditions.

At 30 secs you'll see my boat, a 40' Silverton AC - here's the frozen frame (arrow's pointing to my flybridge):

I have my master's certificate, Sparky. You kinda need one for a boat that size.

I’ve been on about 20 cruises, got on a plane and went to Paris the day after the 2015 attacks without much reservation, but there’s no way in hell I’d get on a cruise ship right now.

As of this morning, they still plan to go if it doesn't get cancelled. They are 81 and 77. Crazy.

Not that they're going to escape the virus if they stay home. They live in a large retirement community and participate in loads of social activities, and they go out all the time. There are confirmed cases in a nearby county to them, and it's probably already being spread far and wide among their friends and neighbors.

But I also understand some people's desire to live their life. We all have to make our own calls. I have a trip scheduled for Hawaii next month. We'll be going unless we're under a 9/11 style shut down of air travel by then which is a definite possibility at this point. But we are in our 40s and otherwise healthy.

Two crew members who had transferred from the other cruise ship were tested, but were negative.
