The outrage over George Will comparing Obama to Trotsky is Mounting

Oh wait... no it isn't.

There is no "Soviet reference" standard comparable to the "Nazi reference" standard.

(George Will trotted out a canned bon mot about how the Obama administrations prediction of effects of the stimulus bill was like Trotsky, being so far-sighted that none of it has come true yet.)

That's an amazing bit of intellectual laziness on his part.

He even described himself as a "non factional social democrat" at one time.

Stalin hated him so much that he later had Trotsky assassinated in Mexico.

Being compared to Trotsky is actually, IMO, a compliment.

rMoney, on the other hand, might accurately be compared to, say, Louis XVI of France.

'name dropping' and giving the appearance of erudition without any substance to back it up. Will understands that latent and overt American anti-intellectualism will always innoculate him against having to defend his genteel red baiting. IOW, Will operates on the premise that anyone demanding that he explain exactly why Obama is like Trotsky will be dismissed as merely a nattering nabob of negativism.

Will thus gives new meaning to the 'chattering classes.'

Reading anything by George is like eating cardboard.

It's hard to chew, tasteless, bland, totally lacks nutritional value, will make you sick if you swallow it, and stinks horribly if you regurgitate it.

In the suburb of Coyoacan.

It's pretty cool. It still has his glasses on his desk where they fell off his face when his assassin attacked.

And it's just a few blocks from Frida Kahlo's house, which is also not to be missed.

influenced one way or the other by any remark about Trotsky, no matter how simple-minded and dim-witted the remark may be. Will is apparently living in a world that no longer exists.
