The Vermont hospital treating the first case of coronavirus detected in the state has implemented drive-up testing to minimize potential exposure to staff and other patients.
The Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington began offering the service this weekend. The presumptive positive coronavirus case, which is being confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), was announced by state health officials Saturday night.
State officials said Sunday that they are investigating whether hospital staff were inadvertently exposed to coronavirus when the patient initially came into the hospital for treatment. Staff who will be treating the patient will wear personal protective equipment in all interactions going forward. The patient has been placed in an airborne infection isolation room.
