...because, of course, you never spend any time in there.

(21,137 posts)They saved the extra money to not have an inside room. The cruises I have gone on I have passed these rooms and they look uncomfortable and I would be nauseated inside one.

(12,132 posts)it was my second time in an ocean view. I usually want a balcony but the price difference was too great this time. If I was on a ship and quarantined, I'd damn sure hope I was in a balcony room.
My son and his wife get inside cabins all the time. They'd rather be on a cruise than not on a cruise and they can do more of them if they pick insides. I just can't quite bring myself to do it. I'd rather go longer in between to save the extra money for a view, preferably a balcony view..
Of course, this is the same kid that thought a 24 pack of Bud Light was a better deal than 2 6-packs of craft beer. I don't know what I did wrong.

He gets it from me, I haven't been like that for years, it certainly rubbed off on him.

(25,183 posts)re-evaluated your willingness to go on another cruise?
I've never been on one, and while the thought of doing so was a fleeting fancy, I never actually took any steps in that direction. After seeing all of the problems on Carnival cruises over the years, I simply lost all interest. Now, after seeing recent events, there's no flippin' way I'd ever get trapped on a boat, ever.

(12,132 posts)The kids talked us into going on our first a few years ago (they had already been on several) and now I kick myself for not starting sooner (I live within a 4 hour drive of 5 different ports and could have been going for the last almost 40 years if Id'a thunk I'd like it).
All but the very first one have been on Carnival and we have thoroughly enjoyed every single one from a quick 3 day to Nassau to an 8-day partial transit of the Panama Canal. Our bucket list includes Hawaii and Alaska and we almost pulled the trigger on booking for next April but alas, it's not like we're rich. We do have to save up for these things - we just do this instead of a lot of other things. Alaska will be twice the cost of cruises from here because we have to fly to the other side of the country to do it. But we're contributing to that fund and will get there eventually.

(5,526 posts)But then again, I don't really like people.
I would rather be chilling on my balcony watching the waves go by than to be up on deck with hundreds of people.
One of my favorite parts of the cruise is to order room service breakfast and relax on the balcony.
I am fortunate to have the means for this upgrade. I fully understand why it is a financial choice for others.

I remember going on the self-guided tour of Alcatraz Island in 1999, and by myself, I went into "The Hole". I still get the creeps from that moment.

(15,381 posts)And my only frame of reference for one is the Marx Brother's comedy, "A Night at the Opera." (Make that three hard-boiled eggs) Isn't the only view outside of a cabin through little round windows?
If so, I would choose inside rooms for the same reason I choose motel rooms - I'm going to be using it for sleep so I don't care how fancy it is, just so long as it's clean.

(3,268 posts)on larger cruise ships many outside rooms either have balconies or even an exit to a deck/promenade. But I have been on brief cruises with just a A porthole and just once in an inside cabin with a shared toilet alternately known as the slave quarters...I seriously expected to find a port for my oar...

(56,582 posts)If you take the long-haul cruises without the frills, it's usually cheaper than a retirement home for the same time period. She did it often enough that she got rewards point upgrades for the balcony rooms sometimes.

(18,123 posts)Your time was spent sitting on a wooden lounge chair out on the deck with a blanket over your lap, chatting with Dorothy Parker. You'd go on a cruise to relax and breath the fresh air.
