Disinfecting large areas doesn't help much against a virus that we don't know much about yet. It helps the populace feel better - that 'somebody is doing something', and it does help them take the idea of the spreading infection more seriously, but it won't do much to slow anything down.

And Iguess they think its worth the $.

Not sure about S. Korea. They may be doing it bec' it probably won't hurt. (Except for the impact of tons of anti-bacterials being released int the environment w/ no safeguards.) Or it may be bec' China is doing it.

6. I think we're going to have a bigger problem

once this is over, in getting people to STOP using antimicrobial wipes and soaps. It's been shown that overuse of these products, especially if they contain triclosan, has been promoting antibiotic resistance and superbugs—which is just as much a public health hazard.

Don't we all remember these provisos from just a few years ago?

Just use plain soap: not the antibacterial stuff (which doesn't affect viruses anyway). It's more effective and less dangerous to the biosphere.

to wash hands often. And have not gotten sick 12 days after getting off a Caribbean cruise.
