People have short memories about the crash of 2008. Many people just look at the 2009 unemployment rise — a lagging economic indicator — and forget the fall of 2008 was when the really scary shit went down. Giant, trusted names in the financial sector were collapsing overnight. We were looking at an unprecedented meltdown, with nobody competent at the helm.

A simple and effective way to remind people is to tweet some horrifying economic fact from this date in 2008 with the hashtag #4yearsago.

Since this requires some research on your part, this won't go as viral as the hashtags that anyone can make up on the spot — so we need to counter that effect by mobilizing many DUers armed with facts to trckle them out day by day over the next few weeks.

Pick a watershed moment in the crisis that was particularly telling for you. Then mark your calendar for the same date this year and tweet it that day with #4yearsago.

Obviously, we're much better off than we were then. But that's only obvious when you know the facts.

For millions of individuals, the answer is no. But as a country? Yes, definitely.

Does he really want to remind us of those dire days that cost McCain the election last time around? (among other factors, I know)

Fall 2008? Really?

Oooookay. If Romney's stupid enough to bring it up, I say we slap him with it but good!
