I took her to Walgreens for the pneumonia vaccine.
I have also learned how the vaccine works.
It makes your arm hurt so bad, that you dont notice the pneumonia.
Edit: someone asked me to change the title, and so I updated it to yesterday

(56,582 posts)I was walking in circles for a week. The corpsman kept saying how we should ignore the rumors, it's perfectly safe... but don't handle any food for the next 48 hours.

(10,156 posts)You might want to change your title. Gave me the impression that your wife was shot with a gun

(62,444 posts)Shes been cussing me out all day, so Ill let you know when Im safe.
If you get it tomorrow, it kicks in a day sooner than it you get it the day after tomorrow.

(3,336 posts)For 4 days, pain and rash at the injection site. Body felt really tired, too. Not looking forward to the second dose.
Glad your wife got vaccinated for pneumonia. My turn is coming soon for that!

Hope her arm is better real soon.

(2,769 posts)I think that it is only protective against bacterial pneumonia, not viral pneumonia.
In any case, I've had pneumonia twice and it's not fun. One bout took my usual 130 lbs down to 112.

(12,463 posts)And didn't know I had it.
I hardly ever get sick and forgot what a fever was. By time I got to urgent care, they put me on IV antibiotics right in the back part was there for a few hours because they gave me two rounds and hydration, left with a Whopper dose of antibiotics and told if anything gets worse,to go to the ER.
I had no Idea I was that sick.

(14,732 posts)You'll wish your arm would just fall off.

(62,444 posts)Having done both now, the vaccine was far better.
The shingles lesions had broken out on my inner and upper right thigh, rendering me immobile.

(14,732 posts)Apologies for what turned out to be a bad joke.

(62,444 posts)It's not like I'm offended by the fact that I had chicken pox as a kid and then, yep, got shingles in middle age. That's how these things work.
It hurts, lasts a bit, and goes away. Just like life itself.

(12,383 posts)protect against any Corona complications, Ive read. But still and all, if you dont get the other strains of pneumonia, your lungs will be in better shape if you do happen to contract Corona. Its probably wise to get all just to keep your defenses up, I think. None of these prevent the common cold, but I havent had a cold in years since getting them, and of course flu shot yearly.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Reducing potential comorbidities is the goal.
Of course this won't prevent covid-19 infection or complications.
Neither will aerobic exercise. But the more lung capacity you have going in...

(115,683 posts)I got the pneumonia vaccine a couple of weeks ago and it didn't hurt at all. My arm ached slightly the next day but that was about it. Maybe I'm just insensitive.

(2,220 posts)The Shingrix was worse for me. I was down with severe muscle pain and fever for a week after the first shot. After the second, it was just as bad but only lasted three days.
Your humor is greatly appreciated.

(1,214 posts)The shot didn't hurt but my arm did for about 10 days

(24,761 posts)Not only did my arm hurt, but it also had me too tired even to cook. I could barely move.

(10,168 posts)3 days in a row! I could not lift my arm without pain. It serves me right since I had mocked my husband for being a big baby when he got his! Karma!

(22,252 posts)My shingles vax was worse than the pneumonia, but not bad.
Mr YellowDog got the shingles vax a few weeks ago and was miserable for a couple of days. He thought he was coming down with flu except no fever. After he began to feel better he decided it was the vax.
Hopefully I can get them updated soon; for a long time the wait lists for the 2nd stage Shingles vax were so long that a lot of pharmacies put a hold on adding names.

(12,463 posts)And my arm was hellova sore it felt like a roll of quarters in the muscle where the shot was put in. I think it was the 23 strain version.
