A coalition party like that is more "possible" than ever before because of the way we all can communicate now.
You don't have to BE a "minority" to see how they have ALL been pitted against each other, and have been coerced to choose A or B, or abstain altogether.
If they ever could all join forces long enough to toss the bigots, xenophobes, racists and theocrats out of office, we might finally get a functioning government.
All we have now is the 1%ers eating all that "blueberry pie", and then telling each group that someone from "the other" group ate it all, ans that's why there is none for them.
Media pays only lipservice to minority concerns, and when they do, they do it in a snide way that only serves to remind people of the differences between people, instead of the similarities.

(53,521 posts)Just that as each "minority" has its own little niche, as part of a larger party...any party...it gets diluted, and the needs of each group get easier to shunt aside. If that happens often enough, apathy sets in, because they feel as if they (each group) never have enough clout to matter.
Coalitions can (an do) align with parties, and change is never instant, but together is usually better than each group duplicating efforts individually, when combining of efforts could benefit the whole.
MHP had two Sikhs on this am and their description of how they (as a small group) have started to align with Muslims (because of their ill-treatment in the post 9-11-01 era), and how they feel a bit more secure because of it.
Groups who are constantly pitted against each other, have a hard time really understanding each other, but when common goals, fears, etc can unite them, it is possible to see how much more alike they are, and once they all stop fighting over the crumbs that the 1%ers are offering, their combined strengths could go after the whole cookie... or help the party they choose to align with, accomplish it.

(6,904 posts)Maybe each minority can have its' own party. We could have one for African Americans and split that into religious factions. Of course we'd still have to split the 1% from the rest. Hispanics, native Americans, African Americans do not all share exactly the same political goals. I do not believe that we have many xenophobes, racists, bigots, or theocrats in the Democratic party, they already have a party to go to.
BTW This is Democratic Underground.

(24,692 posts)A CEO, a tea partier, a union worker and an immigrant are all sitting at a table when a plate with a dozen cookies arrives. Before anyone else can make a move, the CEO reaches out to rake in eleven of the cookies.
When the other three look at him in surprise, the CEO locks eyes with the tea party member. "You better watch them," the executive says with a nod toward the union worker and the immigrant. "They want a piece of your cookie."
