Holy mother of ... Only 8 tests performed today by the CDC and public health agencies nationwide

@KagroX

Sanjay Gupta just had Don Lemon read the CDC’s coronavirus testing stats off of his phone.

ZERO tests conducted today by CDC.

A grand total of 8 tests conducted by other public health agencies across the country.

We are truly fucked.

The total number of test kits? I hate to think that but there has to he a reason for the daily numbers to decline.

Even if more labs are testing the cdc should be tracking national testing rates and results statistics.

Edit: just read post 11 from highplains that says it’s a shortage of lab materials. Ugh.

(a statement of the obvious)

So yeah, deep trouble. It's going to peak like Italy and overload the hospitals.

It was great for Trump to tell kids it won't kill them tonight (which is not entirely true). Would have been handy to warn the kids that they could kill their parents or others. I had to straighten out my own kids on this. It also would have been wise to warn the kids that their lungs could get damaged.

The spirit should be that we're all in this together and we all need to help each other not get infected or get treatment, etc.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/10/coronavirus-testing-lab-materials-shortage-125212

A looming shortage in lab materials is threatening to delay coronavirus test results and cause officials to undercount the number of Americans with the virus.

The slow pace of coronavirus testing has created a major gap in the U.S. public health response. The latest problem involves an inability to prepare samples for testing, creating uncertainties in how long it will take to get results.

CDC Director Robert Redfield told POLITICO on Tuesday that he is not confident that U.S. labs have an adequate stock of the supplies used to extract genetic material from any virus in a patient’s sample — a critical step in coronavirus testing.

Qiagen, a major supplier of the kits, confirmed that its product is backordered due to “the extraordinary pace” at which the world has increased coronavirus testing over the last few weeks.

I am fed up to here with hearing Pence and Trump talking about the "private sector" and "corporate America" when this is absolutely what the federal, state, and local governments throughout the USA should be doing.

There is absolutely no coordination between the federal government vs. state and local governments. That fault lies SQUARELY with the Trump/Pence mal-administration.

"Private sector" and "corporate America" .... your COVID-19 response sucks.

of "shrinking government to the size where it can be drowned in a bathtub." - Grover Norquist - well known American political activist and strategist for conservative and libertarian causes, especially the reduction of taxes.

This is what Trump has been doing since the day he stole office. He's been gutting the government, placing unqualified loyalists in positions of power, and exponentially adding to the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and his wealthy benefactors. It always pays to know who your enemy is and what his intentions are.

A physician called into the lab at the hospital, and asked her what is the protocol if the physician suspects Covid-19. Wifey didn't know, so called to the big hospital lab and had their expert lay it down ... if the patient is sick enough to be admitted via the ER then the hospital can do the testing and send it to the state lab. Result would be available in 24 hours. Alternatively the doctor's office can take the swabs, and either LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics can do the test, but the samples will have to be put on dry ice. Test results will be back in days (3 days minimum). Most doctor's offices in the area don't have freezers or dry ice.

The patient in question though needed to have other tests first... For flu and for strep. Turns out this patient had both flu A and flu B. It's not to say the patient didn't have Covid-19 but with the patient having two strains of flu at once certainly puzzled the doctor and got them asking about Covid-19 testing.

but not confirmed by the CDC testing.

The CDC has three levels to classify a potential case of COVID-19:

Person Under Investigation (PUI): Any person who is under investigation for having the virus that causes COVID-19, or who was under investigation but tested negative for the virus.

Presumptive Positive case of COVID-19: Anyone who has tested positive for the virus, but testing was conducted at the local or state level. Currently, presumptive positive cases must have sample undergo confirmatory testing at the CDC.

Laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19: Anyone who has tested positive for the virus at the CDC laboratory.

using "entitlements" (social security etc.) that republicans somehow think we don't deserve, even though we've paid into it since the first job we ever had. Somehow all that FICA that's been deducted from our wages for 50 years adds up to an "entitlement" for republicans. What they want is to take that money for themselves, and give it to the wealthy and investor class. Now that would be an "entitlement", but they fail to see that.

You know, tax cuts pay for themselves.

Trickle down, a rising tide lifts all boats.

The end justifies the means.

Economies work from the top down.

Paying below subsistence will make the economy thrive.

They think this will just go "poof" any day now and that only poor people will die from it. It's all a big hoax, Donny Two Scoops said so on national teevee and their teevees don't lie. Or Republican Jebus will make sure only "those" people get it.

I'm over my three score and ten but without comorbidities, but I'm definitely in the crosshairs. If I ever tried voting GOP, my arm would fall off, jump up, and try to beat some sense into me.

However, the major risk factors are: over 60, male, hypertension, COPD or other lung disease, heart disease, diabetes.

I am absolutely furious at this sham government and every dumb doofus who got fooled into voting for it.
