The wife was just laid off due to COVID-19

Not the end of the world, but my wife and her colleagues who work in the San Francisco hotel business was laid off due to low occupancy. We think it’s going to be a while before the local economy gets past this.

Sorry to hear about your wife and her colleagues being laid off. With the coronavirus and low oil prices that low unemployment rate that Trump brags about is going to jump over the next few months.

relief package. It would apparently cover people whose jobs don't qualify them for unemployment insurance.

Hospitality is going to get the brunt of things. Here in Vegas we know our whole economy is about to get crushed.

One potential client flat out said the last thing they need right now is a road warrior coming on site every week.

And so it goes.

preparing to leave early. Among other reasons no doubt, their national health insurance only covers them for a certain period out of country (6 months or so typical), so they want to make sure they get safe home.

Areas in the south-Florida Miami and central-coast Tampa metro regions have progressed to the "community spread" stage, and a lot of snowbirds, American and otherwise, are in those areas.

About half the economists interviewed this morning on the radio are pretty upbeat we can get through this in four to six months. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.

IT projects are getting canceled.

Tons of jobs posted. Last week I had three different positions locked up but they got canceled because the companies are cutting back. During the same period, ten internal job posting were canceled due to the companies we service canceling planned projects.

So, double whammy of being laid off and nobody wants to proceed with hiring right now. And I get to lose my health insurance during a pandemic.

There is a hotel near my workplace that normally had tons of cars in its lot, looked very busy. The lot was empty on Tuesday except for 4 cars in the front. On Wednesday it was the same except the hotel hung a huge sign in front saying “We are Open”.

Unfortunately, we live in interesting times.

We went out to dinner last night to our favorite local bar. We always sit in Angie's section, she is terrified of what will happen if they have to close for a time or lay people off. Lots of hard working Americans will suffer because of this and the inability of our leaders to do a damn thing.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Our family has had that experience several times in the past so my thoughts are with you. It’s a tough go and the insecurity of not knowing what will happen is a real stress. I’m hoping you can all stay positive. For my husband, each lay-off opened the door for different but better opportunity, in time. I’m hoping the same for all of you.
