Broadway Will Go Dark Amid Coronavirus Concerns

https://www.playbill.com/article/broadway-will-go-dark-amid-coronavirus-concerns
Broadway theatres will go dark beginning 5 PM, March 12.

The announcement comes as venues and performing arts organizations around New York City and the country have announced closures of their own amid rising concerns about the global coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in a press conference that no gatherings of more than 500 people will be allowed, excepting schools, hospitals, mass transit, and nursing homes. That ban will be effective beginning 5 PM, March 13.

For gatherings under 500, the seating capacity will be cut in half.

Good move for the public health.

Very bad for NYC's economy and the many people who work in the theater industry. This includes actors, musicians, stage hands, ticketing staff and ushers among others. Additionally, all of the related businesses and their workers will be harmed including restaurants, parking garages, hotels and other tourist related businesses.

Still, it's the right thing to do for now. Hat tip to Governor Cuomo who seems to be addressing this crises like a professional, (unlike Trump).
