Overheard today:

On MSNBC, talking about the markets diving and wondering what it's going to take to provide assurance says, "What's it going to take? What do they want to hear from Trump concerning the coronavirus?"

And someone walking by responds, "They want to hear that he's got it."

this quotation actually comes from Clarence Darrow, the lawyer of Scopes Trial fame. Here's a fuller version of the quote, which appears in Darrow's 1932 work The Story of My Life:

"All men have an emotion to kill; when they strongly dislike some one they involuntarily wish he was dead. I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction."

This has often been attributed to Mark Twain.

It's the thought that counts!

I'm so glad Trumpy gave that Oval Office Address last night!

When I first read your post, I thought that last line meant that he "got it" - as in - he understood. Then I read it again and I "GOT IT"!!

At some point - I predict in the very near term - it will occur to him that this virus is threatening his very own political survival. This is when the smart career civil servants or even GOP establishmentarians like a Nikki Haley can reach in and grab the reins by presenting Trump with a way out.

At the end of the movie, El CID has been killed in battle but his generals tie him to his horse so he can ride out of the gates leading his army into battle one more time and strike fear into the enemy.

McTurtle would have him stuffed and propped up in the Oval Office so he could still “lead”
