(51,590 posts)a shit until it personally affects them physically and/or financially. The younger citizens who are asymptomatic now will spread it to their parents and grandparents then they will have to care for them. The shit is about to hit the fan with the Fux Ruse crowd who is making this out to be some one else's problem and are pointing fingers at other countries. I have zero sympathy for them...they are part of the problem.

(63,208 posts)I see a large number of people mocking the "panic" and insisting that COVID-19 is no worse than the common cold.
These are idiots. These are assholes.

(19,200 posts)He sent me a text last night saying the virus is like having a bad cold. The ship sailed long ago on my trying to talk some sense into him. Honestly, I can't believe we're really brothers. My Mom and Dad were both staunch republicans, along with my sister and brother. I was the only one who made a break from the family tradition of being a mindless moron. Needless to say I was persona non-grata at most family functions. Discussions regarding politics and religion were never avoided at these get togethers, but seemed to be mandatory, just for my "benefit". I was always the first to leave every one of these galas.

(13,594 posts)Andy Slavitt is certainly NOT a "top public health expert." He is an MBA who used to run CMS for a couple of years. He's not even a doctor.

(4,874 posts)He's a virologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Institute in Seattle, and creator of NextStrain, an open source site that track the genomes of all the strains real time around the world.
He references encouraging research that shows how fast we can bring down the number of cases, by reducing contacts with others by 75%. It's radical, but probably what's triggering so many closures that we are reading about today.
