for everything from diseases to tornadoes and hurricanes.

In the early days, when HIV/AIDS first starting hitting people, it was called a "gay disease." It hit the gay community hard at first, in other words. Straight people thought they were immune to getting it back then. As *most* people learned over time, they realized it is NOT a gay disease and they are not immune. Straight people can get it too. So, then, things changed, for *most* straight people, except in the right wing evangelical community, mainly right wing Christians.

Right wing Christians jumped on that chance to sit around and talk about how anyone who got it deserved it for being gay, to make themselves feel holier than thou. They jump on any chance to feel holier than thou. They jump on any chance to harp incessantly on how much they hate gay people, as if we haven't already heard them mention it repeatedly already.

They know, for sure, they are not immune to this one. I don't know how they think when it comes to calling something like Coronavirus a hoax. I DO, however, know how they think when it comes to HIV/AIDS. Source: I live in the belly of the beast, the Bible Belt, in a rural area, where people STILL believe HIV/AIDS is a "gay disease."

And because of that, evangelicals have been able to keep the narrative that it's a "gay" disease and thus a punishment from God, which of course emboldens them to be homophobic asshats.

Coronavirus is not dependent on anything other than simple contact so anyone can get it. One of Trump's biggest evangelical fans, Robert Jeffress, even gave a sermon about how it's not a judgment from God because he knows that if he declares it as such, if his flock, him, even Trump gets it, then God is punishing THEM, and that just ain't good for business.
