I think they could both be true. He is terrified of getting sick - terrified of having the virus. So in his twisted mind, if he doesn't get tested, then he can't have the virus, and he can't be sick. Like I said - twisted.

I suspected for awhile, and we're starting to get confirmation, that the lack of testing is due, at least in part, to a desire to not ask a question where he didn't want to know the answer. He thinks he truly is the center of the universe, and all he has to do is ignore an inconvenience (or call it weird, nasty names), and it will somehow go away. Gaslighting works with human beings (sadly), but it does not work with viruses.
