America needs to plan now in case Trump loses in November but refuses to leave the White HouseThe Constitution provides a couple of mechanisms for Trump to lose the 2020 electionboth the popular vote and the Electoral Collegeand still hold the office of president for a second term.
Its keeping historians and constitutional scholars up at night and, based on offline conversations Ive had with D.C. conservatives I know, is something the GOP and partisans within the Trump administration are already discussing.
This is a very long article laying out a credible scenario; just skipping to last two paragraphs:
Get it into the media and repeat it over and over again: The GOP plans to claim Democratic voter fraud in this election to steal the election for themselves, and theyre already getting people primed for it!
Then, when the GOP starts screaming that some states where Trump lost are in doubt because of voter fraud, itll be seen as the scam that it is.

(28,127 posts)About staying in office and out of prison than he is of CoVid-19, even if he's already contracted it.
He knows extreme measures by the best doctors will be taken to keep him alive. Besides, I don't think he truly understands how dangerous this virus is - he's that ignorant and stupid.

(9,952 posts)The problem he faces is that there is no vaccine, and no effective treatment that's proven. As I understand it, all that is offered is supportive care. So, if he needs vent care, he's in deep doo doo. No magic bullet for him. In the same boat as the rest of us.

Here's what I'm thinking (Constitutional scholars please correct me). The Secret Service is ordered, by law, to install the winner of the presidential election, no matter if they agree with it or not. They would have to install Biden, and trump would be physically removed if necessary. It would look like very ugly sour grapes, and show just how insane he is. Once that happens, the matter could drag out in the legislature, or court, for years. Or at least months.
During that time, Biden would already be getting the country back to normal, and getting rid of trump atrocities. I would expect the stock market to soar. Americans, in general, will breathe a big sigh of collective relief. It will be very, very difficult then to re-install trump. That may, indeed, have people rioting in the streets. We crave normal right now.
I had an old boss that used to say--if someone says they don't want a puppy, you say--take the puppy home, and just try him for awhile. The person does that, the puppy is incredibly cute, and grows on this person, and the family falls in love with him. You think he's going to return the puppy?

(28,127 posts)And wasn't house-breakable. The Biden puppy is warm, respectful, and intelligent. Yet the Republicans will still fight like crazy to keep the one tearing the House apart.
It's going to be "interesting."
I fear this loaded, RW Supreme Court's involvement in any decision. Thom Hartmann seems to have done a very thorough job in laying out the Republicans playbook for keeping this orange disaster in office despite election results.
They will try EVERYTHING, every trick they can. I hope the Dems are ready for the coming fight.
Thanks, my friend. That's no small effort reading and digesting that whole long article.
