I can say this with some authority because my mother was, and is still, 'one of them'. My childhood was all about the demons that lived inside of me. I got to experience exorcism.

COV-19 can be caught by/happen to anyone. Think about past proclamations - AIDS initially affected the gay community the most, and religious nutjobs to this day still get traction pushing it as a gay disease, a scourge sent by God. Hurricanes and other natural disasters, they're slightly more selective with. New Orleans, a city synonymous with vice/having a good time/a large homosexual community? Punishment from God. A flood in the same state that destroys the home of evangelist Tony Perkins, who has preached God sends natural disasters as punishment? Eh, not so much. If anything, it's a test from God, and gosh-darn it, if a millionaire who can overcome God's test without having to touch his own money but get it instead from donations from his followers.. I mean through his faith... anyone can... if they're not gay.

So if COV-19 can strike anyone, you can't be telling the rubes in your flock, er, members of your congregation that it's punishment from God. They don't get punished. They get tested, and the best way to show God you pass his test is to send money to your preacher. It's good business.
