Britian's Insanely Risky Cornavirus Experiment Will Affect the U.S.

How Britain’s Insanely Risky Coronavirus Experiment Will Affect the U.S.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/boris-johnson-turned-britain-petri-130300274.html

<snip>

But the strict containment measures now familiar around the planet—population lockdowns, prohibition of mass gatherings, and travel bans—were notable only by their absences. Johnson’s government has diverged with the rest of the world and decided to take a much less draconian approach, and his scientific advisers have admitted the strategy could see as much as 60 percent of the population catch the coronavirus.

In point of fact, Britain is effectively encouraging a potentially deadly virus to spread to the majority of the people who live here. Remember, the U.K. is one of the only European countries which is still allowed to send flights to the United States under President Donald Trump’s travel ban. That will change, however, come Monday night when a travel ban on the U.K. and Ireland will kick in, according to a Saturday announcement by Vice President Mike Pence.

The logic goes like this: if a large section of the population is exposed to the coronavirus now, it will likely help people develop a level of immunity, and then Britain will be in the best possible position to defend itself from a much worse outbreak of the virus in the future.

12.12 million

fatality rate in this age group is around 12% to 15%.

1.6 million to 1.8 million dead.

hey Thanks Boris!!!!

good god... when Grandma and Grandpa kick the bucket, will the grand kids be grateful the "old boomers" are gone or will they actually miss them?

Oh... even the ones that don't die in that age group... they will likely suffer lung damage and cost MORE to support them for the rest of their days.

That is appalling. Every other country needs to hem them inside their own borders for self preservation's sake while the shitshow plays out. Wow. I thought we had it bad. My heart goes out to everyone in the UK right now.

Another scenario is that it mutates into a virus that wipes out 30% of the planet. Think of MERS with the same infection rate as SARS-CoV-2. MERS was a coronavirus with a 30% death rate. And to think the Romanians wasted a bullet on Ceaușescu when we all could have saved it for the real killers of the world.
