Will we return to normalcy at some point?

Will there be any scenario in which life can return to normal? Where we can go on flights and take vacations, go to concerts and sporting events? And go back to work and school in regular workplaces and classrooms? Or is isolation and self distancing the new normal? Are we in this for the long run and something much scarier abounds? Or will we find a cure and help put a stop to this? I really want to know when life will return to normal.

I feel like there is nothing good in the news right now and I just want something that says that we are going to be on the right path to stop COVID-19.

We got through 9/11 and the Global Financial Crisis and two World Wars and the Great Depression and the Spanish Flu. HIV was eventually brought under control.

Nixon was eventually impeached. Hitler shot himself in a grubby bunker. Mussolini was hung and dragged through the streets.

The system will strain and even break in a few places and a lot of people will be hurt or die (and Trump's incompetence will make it worse) but this too will pass.

This might go on for a while. These temporary closures might go on longer than some anticipate. But with the whole world being affected in this way, hopefully enough research will go into it and it will come sooner than the 12-18 months that some scientists predict.

it will probably be a new normal being more careful about germs and crowds which wouldn't be a bad thing, the question is when it will be.

But even if they are successful, will that signal a return to 'normal'?

I crave normal as much as you do. The world has changed. We'd better get used to the fact that this is the new normal and we need to adapt or die.
