Read a FB post or tweet or something earlier today where a Target store had moved all paper products and disinfectants behind their counters and were limiting customers to 2 items

From my grocery store/chain today: 'Please try to purchase only what you need right now.
We are working tirelessly to restock our shelves. You can rest assured that if an item is out of stock, we are in contact with our suppliers and partners to replenish it as quickly as possible. We kindly ask that you limit your purchase to what you need right now in order to provide products to as many people as possible.'

They are actually confiscating baskets of people that have hoarding stuff in them.

(11,686 posts)I got one of the few last packs at Walmart and the pack said it was the exact same thing as I get from Costco of course in a much smaller pack. It is in no way, shape, or form the same. It is like sand paper and not only is it not 2ply I am trying to figure out if it is even 1ply. Is Walmart always like this or has Walmart found a way to price gouge?

(14,531 posts)Walmart is so big that they tell suppliers what they will pay for products. Then companies take shortcuts making the product.
If I buy produce at walmart I make sure I use it that day. If not, it will be spoiled by day 3.
Dollar general type stores also have a nice trick. Sure you will pay less for that roll of paper towels. But it will have fewer sheets on it than the one you pick up at target for a few pennies more.

(525 posts)Hand soap (2 per customer) and hand sanitizer (1, though it's basically been unavailable for weeks) have been limited for weeks.
For some reason Dutch people aren't freaking out about toilet paper or diet Coke or water or food. Everything is well stocked except the soap and the sanitizer.

(36,298 posts)When COVID-19 started making the news in January, I stocked then on bleach, disinfectant wipes, liquid hand soap, masks and hand sanitizer.
With the news of panic buying, I ordered and installed a bidet in the two upstairs bathrooms to cut down on the consumption of toilet paper we do have on hand.

Over recent days, there have been reports of frenzied shoppers heading to stores like Kroger and Costco Wholesale Corp. for items like toilet paper, paper towels and disinfecting wipes. In some cases, shoppers are binging on these items, walking away with lots while others find empty shelves.
Krogers policy is a good short term response to the current wave of panic we are facing across the U.S. and more retailers are likely to follow suit, said Katrin Zimmermann, managing director TLGG Consulting.
A fair and equal distribution of goods is key to avoid devastating economic and societal consequences.
Our Kroger was emptied of several items mid-week but thankfully we're fairly well stocked-up and hunkered down.
