Graham Medley, Professor of Infectious Disease Modelling, told BBC Newsnight people shouldn't act like someone who is avoiding contracting the virus but rather as someone who already has the virus and is trying not to pass it onto others.

The advice, hailed as "probably the best single piece of advice I've heard about the #coronavirus" by a Twitter user, has been shared thousands of times in just a few hours.
"Most people have a fear of acquiring the virus. I think a good way of doing it is to imagine that you do have the virus, and change your behaviour so that you're not transmitting it," he said.
This is the most correct advice I've seen yet. Always think of others, especially the most vulnerable amongst us.

It's like a run away train with an idiot engineer and all the doors are welded shut. And WTF is with the USA hat, doesn't he know what country he's in. Test kits, WHO had them, other countries are using them ... but no, we had to go reinvent them again. FFS!!!

(45,442 posts)that the US lags behind every developed country in testing as we wait patiently for rich people to figure out how to get richer from it. Our innovative job creators will come up with a very quick and efficient solution to this problem that avoids long lines, empty store shelves, empty venues, and widespread panic from a populace that doesn't trust their own government officials.
America doesn't ration health care.

(25,978 posts)It will get people to spend more time than they otherwise might in making sure to observe proper cleanliness and to just plain go home and stay away from people as much as possible. Crisis can trigger selfish impulses in all of us; this way of approaching the problems pulls people out of their own heads and preoccupations and makes them consider others as well. That's a good thing. We need to know we are all in this together.

Just DONT do it. Do the opposite. Believe the opposite of whatever he says.

Hell even pull out our favorite trump entity at my house: Lotta Peeple. Lotta Peeple is very prominent in Donalds world. And Lotta Peeple has a LOT to say and many pronouncements to make, and definitely has trumps ear.
Lotta Peeplere saying...
Hes lived and profited, and wriggled and finagled his way away from blame and out of trouble with Lotta Peeples help - for years by now. Lotta Peeples been a reliable staple in his world - for a lot of years. Decades, even.
But nothing lasts forever. Not even donald and his favorite imaginary friend.

The best way to protect against getting the virus is to ACT as if you are trying not to infect others but in reality you are doing it for yourself not others. They are more likely to respond to that.

The only 'panic' buy we made was eight gallons of fruit juice that'll be opened if we get sick.
The only thing I'm going to run out of is: I didn't get more reefer.

I dropped a 20 on the counter and fled !!!!

(2,410 posts)but the n95 masks I ordered at the start of February still aren't here!
IronLionZion
(45,442 posts)there are ways to make homemade masks. Use N95 or higher hypoallergenic air filter material from a hardware store cut into pieces and put it inside something to hold it against your face. Ensure a tight fit with elastic or adjustable straps. I happened to have some extra N99 filters because I have chronic respiratory issues so I've given most of it away to elderly relatives who can sew masks for themselves.
