Russia has only 45 cases of Coronavirus

(Reuters) - Russia will limit passenger flights to and from the European Union, Switzerland and Norway, starting on March 16, except for flights through Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, the authorities said on Friday.

Flights from Moscow to the capitals of European states, however, will not be affected, they said.

Russia, which has so far recorded 45 cases of the virus, said earlier this week that it would suspend most flights to and from Italy, Germany, France and Spain over the coronavirus."

As the economies and institutions of China, Europe, and the U.S. begin to crack under the strain.

Just sayin'.

Those numbers probably reflect the power of Putin's huge propaganda machine, if anything, which is rather similar now to that mobster guy who says he is President here.

Putin has a powerful oligarchy going from what I can see. It is something that the obese guy in the bright red hat a full Depends really wants to emulate.

We won't probably know about Russia's real numbers for a long time or when they are overwhelmed to a point it can't be ignored, like full hospitals and lots of dead.

I will say that a despotic regime has more capacity to control, albeit with horrendously authoritarian measures, but I still don't believe they are experiencing so little spread.

Reporting of the disaster will be suppressed.

Trump will be wishing he had similar coercive powers.

Alas, what news does leak out will be sensationalized.

Social media will be flooded with falsities.

I have no doubt that they're in even worse shape than the US, as far as preparedness and testing ability go. As Malcolm Nance likes to say, Russia is a trailer park with nukes.

— Russia registered four more cases of coronavirus, Interfax reported, bringing the total number of infections to 63.

— Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin denied that the authorities are downplaying the numbers of coronavirus patients in the capital.

— The Russian protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor confirmed the first community transmission of the coronavirus in Russia, RBC reported on Sunday, but this information was later removed from Rospotrebnadzor's statement.

— Rospotrebnadzor also said it ran just over 104,000 coronavirus tests since the start of the outbreak while 14,742 people are currently being monitored for coronavirus.

— A Russian Orthodox Church spokesperson said it will not be closing churches or canceling religious proceedings.

— Russian Railways announced it would stop international passenger trains from Moscow to Berlin and Paris. Earlier it was announced that train connections to and from Ukraine, Moldova and Latvia will be suspended.

If they had said zero, everybody in the world would know it was a lie.
So, they toss out a small number and at least their own citizens might buy it for a while.

I'm not sure where they are ranked in terms of international travel, but I have to believe that is low as well.

Before IMPOTUS China ban, Russia had already sealed their land border with China some time earlier....and the same with Iran and Europe once their cases started to trend upwards.

Add to that, if someone was flying in from an infected country....automatic quarantine, if you liked it or not, tough shit.

So, they do have a handle on it, albeit via draconian measures.
