I understand the argument that they are not to be trusted but, sadly, DU has taught me that anyone can stab me in the back.
Sorry to say that but it is the truth.
Under martial law, after WWII, we put Nazis in charge because they knew how to govern. I am not saying that we need to put never tRumpers in charge. I am saying that they have a useful perspective. At one time they did appeal to the cult followers. I ask them for insights on that but they don't give me an answer.
If nothing else, perhaps we can experiment on them to gain a better understanding of cultists?
I am joking, mostly. When this is over we do need to get a better handle on authoritarians. The best source I have found is Karen Stenner, "The Authoritarian Dynamic" but it is not an end all or be all. Neither am I.

(25,479 posts)That doesn't mean we need to specifically target them outside of promoting issues that are important to all.
People seem to think we need to pander to groups to get them to vote for us. For the most part, that's simply not true. All we need to do to get many independents and voters from other groups that aren't die-hard Trump fans is provide a solid alternative and focus on issues that are important to them, like health care, the #1 issue in most exit polls in 2018.
2018 proved that. Rinse, repeat. Alienating them by default, as many seem to insist we do, is stupid.
