I have a serious question about getting in more supplies to the elderly.

I live in a senior living village and one of my neighbors (over 80, heart failure, no family) got caught with a few holes in her pantry items that is making it hard to pull decent meals together.

Those of us with better stocks took her a few things, but among the group of us we are pulling a list together to get all in one run to a market. I'm in the best position of everyone to risk venturing out, so once the stores get their stocks back I'm thinking of making a single run, divy it up and deliver the supplies.

So here is my question.... my local Kroger has the "click list" where I can order, give a credit card, and then just pull up, call the number and they'll bring it out and load the car. I'm thinking this will limit my exposure to people IF I can even get a pick up time. However, I'm worried about if what they are putting in the car will have virus cells on it and I'm just transporting that to my neighbors.

I've looked all over the web and don't see anything fact based.

Anyone know ??? Thoughts????

So far I haven't gotten crazy about it because its early on but my future plan is this. Put some bleach, or other approved germ killer, on paper towels. Wipe down the items as you take them out. Have a wash cloth with clean water on it to then wipe the cleaner residue off. It might take a bit alone, but if everybody works together short work should be made of it.

Even if you drive to the store yourself and get the food off the shelves yourself, somebody had to put that food on the shelf before you picked it up.

The virus only last on surfaces a few hours. If you don't touch your face and wash your hands afterwards, you will be fine.
Of course, you could also wipe all packages with a disinfecting wipe.

in the store, and every item would have been touched and breathed on by multiple people.

If you can get the stuff collected and put in your car, I think that would reduce the risk a bit. Then you can wipe it all down with disinfectant wipes and then wash your hands.

Don't forget to wipe down the trunk door before handling it yourself when you go to get the stuff out of the trunk.

The virus can live on surfaces 24 - 72 hrs. Glass being the worst. At least from what I've read.

people recommend wiping anything with Lysol wipes or a similar anti-bacterial that comes into the house. Only allow 1 person in your house at a time to do pick up.

Look up how long C-19 stays active on different surfaces.

it looks like they are really minimizing the risk from surfaces. So if I wear gloves unpacking it - wipe everything down - repack for the neighbors in clean bags - I think that will minimize the risk as much as humanly possible.

Thanks for the link. I'd been all over the CDC website and didn't see this page.

We should probably get it done sooner rather than later, before the virus gets even more widespread...
