Nextdoor.com - a social network for your local community.

You have to provide your street address and email & it connects you to real time people in your neighborhood/community. I have been touched at the offers from neighbors to shop for those who can't get out or who are at high risk, or to share their supplies with others who might be in need of things that the stores are out of. If you need some real time assistance, check it out. You might find someone who is willing to help.

... Reading that site infuriates me almost daily, because in my area there are a lot of posts about lost and found dogs... Due to privileged owners relying on electric fences and shock collars to protect their dogs. Some people don't deserve dogs.

On a lighter note, check out the Twitter feed @bestofnextdoor. ... It's hilarious... It tweets the most absurd Nextdoor postings from all over the country.

thanks for that.

I've enjoyed my local group that almost comes to blows over cats. on one side, outdoor cats are considered part of the "natural" environment and fauna, the other side wants to kill them or declaw them or at least get their owners to be responsible, LOL.

A lot of “Too many homeless at the grocery store!!!!” “Suspicious person asking for help with their car!”
“Why are their people saying they’re from AT&T going door to door. I think they’re casing us!”

Oh, and complaining about fireworks (that I kinda support)

A lot of implicit racism and paranoia. You’d think my suburban neighborhood was A crime ridden war zone reading it.
But mostly complaining.

I get some good information (like about car break-ins) and some whiners (like the woman who complained that her neighbor across the street from her house hasn’t taken down her Christmas lights yet.

Ours was a bunch of Trump supporters trying to further their cause, and although Nextdoor is not supposed to be political, posts that were reported were never addressed by them.
