Low-wage workers who are living week-to-week are losing their revenue stream as bars and restaurants close. They are seven days away from insolvency - no money at all to scrape by on. No savings, no $ for food or rent. What are they supposed to do?
What about the Long-term unemployed, like older people who have to fight ageism in the job market? What are their chances of getting hired during a pandemic if they couldnt get hired during a job boom? Worse than nil? And seniors are being told to self-quarantine for the time being. Uh huh. What exactly does that pay?
What do renters do? Mortgage lenders are offering grace periods to home owners, but renters rent from a landlord. They rent because they cant afford to own. What do they do April 1 if theyve been out of work for two weeks?
There are a TON of real-world disasters looming just around the corner and nothing is being done to address the inevitable.
Congress needs to immediately pass a bill authorizing $650-billion to send a check of $3000 to each of the 209-million adults living in the USA, perhaps with a cap of no $ for people worth over $1-million. No questions asked, no strings attached.

(153,160 posts)I've already pegged three people I know, to offer assistance when needed. It is disastrous that a global health crisis is occurring under repuke "leadership". NOTHING about conservative ideology helps with a pandemic.

(1,040 posts)... guy wanted to buy the entire pallet of 25 lb bags of flour. Clerk said no ... limit was 1 bag. There must have been 40 bags on that pallet. Guy demanded to be able to buy 1,000 lbs of flour.
