This really does suck

It's even here in the boondocks. I live in a small town in north-central Minnesota, not too far from Itasca State Park. You would think the panic would diminish a little out in the hinterlands, but that is not the case. I'm a cottage baker and a musician. I just lost the income from a spring craft show that got canceled. I have baking classes I am supposed to teach for community adult education in April that will probably be canceled. I also have three Legacy programs I am supposed to give in May that are doubtful. It all adds up to a large chunk of lost income, and to add insult to injury, there is no toilet paper anywhere.

on YouTube channels and some are making a light living off of pure junk videos, whereas the person writing this OP has something quite worthy to market.....

Many are using Patrion to get donations from subscribers.

My wife is a psychologist who works multiple jobs. She is able to do some work, but because the schools are down, much of her income source is gone. She also can't work her side hustle giving parenting classes and seminars. The non-profit she works at may also shut down for a while, though for now they are allowing telecare.

We have a mortgage and bills to pay and I do not make enough to meet all of our expenses.

We do have toilet paper but it is no a large supply and the stores here are empty too.

I made a wild dash to the store after it dawned on me I had better stock up on flour - the flour shelves were totally bare at every store in town. I got clever and went home and ordered a bunch of flour I need from the store's website so I can have it reserved on the next truck. That would probably work for toilet paper too.

although here in rural Vermont stores are actually rationing some things... smart... yesterday an older lady in front of me at checkout had 2 containers of Lysol wipes... the clerk said only 1 per customer... I offered to buy the 2nd for her since I didn't want any... the clerk said people are often doing that

we have a large "Made in Vermont" statewide event in the spring that was cancelled until fall... I had put together boxes of product and not sure how to sell it now (and a temporary loss of $400. for space) …fortunately, one of the things I make is soap so I won't run out of that

my daughter's partner in Arizona is an activity guide at a large resort... lost $20,000 just this past week from cancelled groups and my daughter lost her job (I told her to come back to Vermont and we will spend the summer building a tiny house …a good thing)

...the stories will be endless for sure... best of luck and good wishes to you

I had baked 50 loaves of artisanal bread for the show - the cancelation came the night before it was supposed to go on. I kept some bread for myself and gave the rest away to some of my local merchants downtown. The bookstore was able to give a free loaf of sourdough bread away with each book purchase. It helped them out a little and made me feel good.

Trump telling people the truth early on may have meant we'd have seen a lot of the same, but at least it would have been spread out a little more.

A friend in rural Wyoming has a dog boarding/day care business.
Flat. No customers. And she was always jammed with dogs.
Who would have imagined a couple of months ago that a rural baker/musician and a rural dog whisperer would be impacted by a flu that apparently started halfway across the world?

Those ripples are turning into tsunamis.

I heard somewhere that if shipping to stores gets to be an issue, pet food would be one of the items left out of shipments to stores.

text from a Rellie in Southwest Minny. The Clinics in Renville and Hector are closed till further notice. That was at 10 am your time. You also have a major issue in St Peter at a Tech Company, worker tested positive and apparently infected several others at that plant. One is being monitored by County Health while another is one home monitoring.
