And by that I mean, when there is a scarcity of resources, you give them to people most likely to survive.
It shouldn't have come to this.

(36,745 posts)If it were MERS, which is around 30-40 pct, we would have no choice but with this virus it is pure negligence.

(6,679 posts)If it gets dicey for me someone will accidentally give me too much morphine.
I am old, have asthma, no kids, and my husband passed in December. I am in no hurry, taking all precautions, but heroic measures for me are a poor use of limited resources

(15,286 posts)especially in rural or less populated areas have been forced to close. My sense is there is more capacity in the country than people realize that could be reactivated. Just a few weeks ago a hospital not far from me went bankrupt and closed.

(43,353 posts)a massive pandemic. Even Italy and France, the 2 best systems overall in the world, are utterly incapable atm. South Korea has the most beds per population, and they are also amongst the best so far at dealing with it.
The only positive that will come out of this is that the rotters who scream 'We have the BEST healthcare system in the world!' will forever be exposed as charlatans and frauds.
The US needs a lot more hospital beds to prepare for a spike in coronavirus cases
South Korea has 12.3 hospital beds per 1,000 people. The US has 2.8.
