(3,401 posts)They never had it as easy as we have.
In 1929 There was no social security, Medicare or unemployment. Most Americans lived and worked on farms and had an ability to survive.
It is an election year which for our sake, they will be tripping over each other to hand the money out.

(11,913 posts)The only thing I remember in my lifetime that was close to this was 9/11 and that was only for a few days. We were locked down pretty tight for awhile because they thought the NCC airport could be a target. I missed the scare of the Cuban Missile crisis because I was an infant and don't really remember the Vietnam war.
Thinking back on my mother's lifetime, she was born into the Great Depression, had to deal with WWII, family going off to war, rationing, blackout drills. My aunt grew up rationing groceries each week. She only purchased what she could afford, and if you ran out of something, you had to wait until next paycheck for another grocery order.
My grandmother grew up during WWI and was 18yo during the Spanish Influenza pandemic. She grew up in a rural area on a farm so they always had a big family meals w/ chicken, fresh veggies, baked goods, fresh milk, cream, eggs.
