Predictions are now that as many as 2.2-MILLION Americans could die of the Coronavirus. But what are the chances that the country would move to MFA if the worst comes to pass?
If decades of children being slaughtered by the dozens in our schools hasn't inspired sensible gun laws, why should we expect a disaster like a pandemic to change how our nation provides healthcare for its citizens?

The controversy around MFA would be a show-stopper, imo.

(111,255 posts)shiny new cannons. Do they expect people who get sick to turn greens and roam the streets chanting "brains! Brains!" or do they intend on sitting on that enormous pile of toilet paper in the garage and shoot anybody who comes near it with a wet ass?
You can always count on frightened people to do the wrong things. Buying more guns couldn't be more wrong at this point, the virus is likely to kill enough of us without some idiot shooting up the neighborhood.
As far as MFA goes, we might see a lowering of the eligibility age or we might not. Nobody's gonna tell old Joe Six Shooter what to do with HIS life, yanno, so he's going to fight it tooth and nail.
The guns he's buying up to stop the virus are proof of where he's at.

(14,966 posts)What we need is more freedom for the private sector to innovate and respond quickly to the changing market demands in ways the bloated government bureaucracy cannot.
But seriously, they WILL say things like that.

(29,199 posts)Would it have stopped the transfer from bat to pangolin in a live market in china?
Would it have stopped the hop to humans?
Would it have done anything to stop the virus from spreading?
Would it have prevented some asshole admin from defunding the CDC or removing the White House task force for pandemics...
Would it change anything about the asshole decisions regard the WHO test kits
Would it have made tests more available here?
Would it make tracking all of the contacts of an infected person easier?
Would it make the ensuing pandemic NOT overwhelm the hospitals and staff with sick people once containment failed?
Nope... all it would do would be to pay for the tests and the treatment.
It would not have prevented the pandemic or the resulting economic collapse.
And it would not be any better at coming up with a treatment or a vaccine.

(24,396 posts)But Im hearing certain candidates touting MFA like it would have made a difference. If said candidates are hoping that todays pandemic will assist in their quest to get MFA they are mistaken, at least if our sorry history on gun legislation after a tragedy is any indicator.
