I am currently stuck in Paris, and have nothing to do but post on DU
These are my predictions of possible outcomes for the Presidential Election in November (may I be wrong!!)
1) Trump wins
We therefore enter a true fascist era, with all that entails...I won't go into what it will be like, but we all can imagine...maybe we'll all have to take a loyalty oath to Dear Leader.
2) Trump thinks that he is going to lose (polls say Biden will win, etc.)
Trump having declared a state of emergency, cancels (postpones indefinitely) the election. We enter a true fascist era...
3) Trump loses
He follows the scenario described by Thom Hartmann, refuses to certify the election (too much voter fraud). The House then has to vote on the results, 50 electors, with a Republican majority (there are more Republican representatives for each state than Democrats), it agrees with Trump, we enter a true fascist era...
I will be grateful if anyone can give me a better scenario.
I am a Warren supporter, thus moving to Bernie, but I will happily vote for Joe Biden with ANY vice president he can come up with!

(63,912 posts)If it plays out in the states the way you say, there will be a rebellion and some Dem majority states will start proceedings to get rid of the Electoral College. This will rile voters, awaken them from their slumber and the activism will be on a level with what we see with the Anti-Vietnam War movement in my lifetime.

(34,376 posts)can and there's no way in hell that the House would do that. And even if the presidential election was somehow canceled, state elections would still go on. According to the Presidential Succession Act, that thing's term would end and the Speaker of the House would become president at noon on January 20, 2021.
Thank you catbyte!
Being in lockdown, I have nothing to do but think...and my thoughts are not of the most positive.
But thank you for the info.

(34,376 posts)of Emergencies he wants, but our framers and past Congresses had the wisdom to put things in place to prevent the scenario you're worried about. Here's an article that explains it better than I can:

(401 posts)1) Trump wins ---- Only if we nominate Sen Sanders. Trump's commercials will feature his honeymoon in Russia, many of his wilder statements, and will define him as a crazy, old man
2) Trump thinks that he is going to lose (polls say Biden will win, etc.) ---- Simply can't happen
3) Trump loses ---POTUS does not certify the election. Trump's time in office ends at noon on Jan 20th. Period. Hard stop. NO WAY IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. At noon on Jan 20th either Trump starts a new term, the new president starts a new term, or the 'One Vote per State' rule would kick in to select a POTUS.
Our constitution ensures that we will never end up with a dictator.
