(66,467 posts)Traffic, and everything else, is better down in the valley, along with a nice, small town feel. It's a relief from noisy, crowded, bustling South Hill.
OTOH, South Hill stands at about 50-60 feet above sea level, and so is protected from the near-flooding of the Puyallup River like the one we had last month. Most of downtown Puyallup lies along the Puyallup River floodplain, so that's a worry.
But if you choose to live on South Hill, be prepared: it's just a big strip; an endless panorama of fast food joints, discount tire stores, strip malls, cookie-cutter McMansions and apartment buildings.

(8,067 posts)Reported them to the health department. Turns out the fish refrigerator was right next to their kitchen grill, and the temperature inside the fish refrigerator was 51 degrees.
We both almost died.

(14,494 posts)When I was a volunteer firefighter in the 80s, we often got called out on grease fires in local restaurants of all types, from greasy spoons to very upscale joints.
The big surprise? We almost always had to go through kitchen areas to address the problem and the most fancy and upscale restaurants were the nastiest and most poorly maintained regarding keeping their grills and exhaust hoods clean. General housekeeping was usually awful.
In contrast, many of the smaller places were typically much cleaner, more neat in general and better maintained.
Go figure.......... ......

(12,406 posts)Its also a buffet, but the kids are served. Food is only touched by gloved staff. The kitchen area is so clean and under such strict rules that if a roach ever entered, he would be made to put boots on before being trapped. The floors are scrubbed daily and rinsed with the fire hose, 2 inches of water being squeegied down the drain. Ive been in many restaurant kitchens and have never seen one as spotless. So if four lunch ladies can do this, PLUS put out awesome looking, delicious meals (yes, the kids and teachers compliment us constantly), then so can a buffet restaurant.
