Which, itself, was likely a response to earlier CTs pushed by a US senator saying that this is a bioweapon created by China.

Edit - Specifically though, the Chinese diplomat isn't claiming that the military deployed the virus or that it was being used as a weapon. He's saying that patient Zero was likely a member of the US military who had visited Wuhan for the Military World Games that were hosted back in October.

As far as theories go, the Chinese one has some merit given the US flu cases that have since been reclassified as Covid cases. The theory being pushed by the US senator, however, is complete bull.

Dont know enough about genetics to know if it is possible to narrow down the origins of a virus like that.

Will say that this is a novel coronavirus that only happens when a virus makes that transition from animal to human.

I think it was China`s military chief who first brought this up.
