If voter turnout is not at a record high in November we only have ourselves to blame

Trump did, and working to restore all the agencies he gutted and beg the experts who quit to please come back.

There must be a way to prevent the next (gag... You know it's possible) Republican idiot the right puts in the Oval office from blowing up the government by dictatorial fiat. We can't withstand another petty, self serving, incompetent president like Trump who fails to lead and is more interested in obliterating history than governing.

Requiring POTUS candidates to:

* Release their tax returns since the age of 25 to the public.

* Submit to thorough physical and psychological health exams, with a general fitness for office report released to the public.

* Be able to acquire the very highest security clearance before running.

I don't think we'd get something like demonstrating a respectable record of public service or philanthropy to fly. Too open to interpretation. But the rest are doable.

Having candidates clear those three things alone would go a long way to sparing us another Baron von Blockhead.

To prevent abuses of power in the future:

* Invalidate the Justice Department's "memo" that says a sitting POTUS cannot be indicted. Nothing in the Constitution says that, so pass the legislation that makes the President subject to criminal liability to the full extent of the law. Because no one is above the law.

* Give the power of subpoena in Congress some real teeth by requiring the Justice Department to charge and try anyone who refuses to obey a subpoena. No exceptions. No excuses. If you or I refused a subpoena, we'd be in jail right now. Laws need to be applied equally to all. Also: Increase the penalties for failing to comply with a Congressional subpoena. Make it a fine of at least $5 million dollars, and 25 years in prison, minimum. Per count. That will get scumbags like McGahn and the rest running to Capitol Hill to comply.

The Democrats will have to find a way to limit the power of the Senate Majority Leader to prevent another Moscow Mitch from emerging, and that will be a tough sell. The temptation to use the office to make the repukes pay for Moscow Mitch's abuses and treason will be overwhelming for Schumer and the rest of the Dems. And the Majority Leader will be Schumer if we retake the Senate, before any of the loons start squawking about Warren, who has neither the seniority nor leadership resume for it. Those things matter in selecting a Majority Leader, and there's no getting around it. So everyone howling for this needs to get over it. It ain't happening.
