Is This Fair - People At Some Companies Are Told They Could Stay Home And Self-Isolate If They....

choose to. But if they do that they have to use their vacation time and sick days to do that. Many people aren't taking advantage of that because they don't want to lose days they accrued. Is this what's happening all over the country and a common way of handling this or is this out of line?

This is why any virus is spread. By sick people required to work or lose benefits, pay or even the job.

My company has been encouraging it, but at this point there are not that many people in our building anymore and those, like me, who are, are dispersed.

Having to take your vac days is bee ess.

all it takes is for one of those in the building to get the virus. I think your employers are putting you in harms way. They might now have second thoughts and say you can stay home - but it's too late. You now potentially carry the virus back to your home and family.

On edit: these employers are handling this just like Trump is handling this crisis. He made it worse because he didn't do some essential things right from the start. Minimized it and called it a hoax. Now he's playing catch up and we're behind the eight ball.

Most of the people in my company are being paid for at least 2 weeks to stay home. Many managers are working from home like my wife. Don't know what will happen to those not working after 2 weeks. I would guess they will have to use benefit time.

My are is of critical concern and we are still working. But smartly. Most on my team work all day alone in an outdoor environment with no one around. I have limited group meetings and the ones I have are held outdoors in the Florida sun with everyone over six feet away. Everyone has readily access to wash facilities and continual access to hand sanitizer. If one of my team wanted to self isolate, well, that is why they earn generous sick day. 8 a year and can save up to 120 hours worth.

If this goes on for months I have no clue what will be done. While I support mandatory sick pay for employees I can’t say I expect my company to pay people for months if they have to stay home. Rather I think this is exactly the situation we want an active government favoring the people. If people are made to stay home for way more than any benefit plan accounts for in the interest of the common good then that is where we should help keep those people whole. I’m just glad to still be earning a paycheck.

My company (Fortune 500) instituted 'work from home' for everyone except certain jobs (mostly operational) deemed 'essential.' But, anyone not comfortable being in the office would not be forced. Plus, anyone who ends up being diagnosed with COVID gets two weeks paid time off. I've been pretty happy with management's approach.

I was planning to maybe go in today for a the afternoon, just to get out of the house. When I touched base with my VP this morning, he said not to come in. A lot of the 'essentials' were in process of being sent home.

I'm grateful I have a job where I can work from home.

Large car dealership told me only 2 employees asked to stay home a older one and a 6 month pregnant one. I didn’t ask about financial part of it. I know the owner can be stingy, she has fought to pay people more for years and their medical is so expensive even for employees my daughter who makes good money got catastrophic only.
