(54,770 posts)While I think SS as we know it is safe, if things get bad enough, it will be cut too. Now, if that happens, well all be in a similar boat and rents, mortgages, etc., will see adjustments.
Most importantly, we need someone directing those decisions that cares about people first, but also looks for long-term solutions. We dont have that now.
Not really intending to debate you. SS is relatively safe, but only if things dont totally collapse.

(7,947 posts)We came back from the last global crisis in 2008. Of course, then we had President O to pull us back from the brink.
Now we'll have VP Biden (as President this time!). We have got to stop saddling our Democratic presidents with the mess the GOP leaves!
Imagine how good we'd have it if we had two Dems in a row (still furious about Secy Clinton not getting a chance-- just imagine how well she would have handled this).

This is what we get for allowing ourselves to become totally enamored to the stock market, the gambling and whore house it is.
Wall Street and Republicans did this to us by making it impossible to make gains from bank savings and CDs, and everyone took flight to stocks and mutual funds and became overnight market experts. They also made trading as easy as buying bubble gum. After that the public refused to criticize the rigged system because we became the system but in the far, far back seat.
But as they've consistently said, the market always comes back. We just may not live long enough to see it.
Not making light of your loss because I've been burned bad before too (90s tech crash).
