and the full extent of this crisis is laid bare, his approval rating will drop to 37%, like it was for a bit in 2017. Actually, as long as it stays below 45%, he won’t win re-election. Biden has the Obama coalition plus a fair chunk of the white working class. Polls right now show Biden ahead by 9-10 points. I’m fairly confident Trump is going to lose, big time.

Sorry, but after 2016, we cannot afford to be "confident" about anything that has to do with Trump. Putin is still out there, and he knows that a Democratic president and congress will turn up the heat on him and his friends. He has a lot to lose with President Biden.

to beat Trump. I definitely don’t disagree with that. But I do believe that he’ll be in a bad position to win re-election as things stand now. Things could change but I’m cautiously optimistic about our chances.

We really should know that by now. They're living in a different reality when none of this is his fault and the Democrats are still to blame for everything.

We have to understand it and plan accordingly, which means turnout, turnout, turnout. That could, of course, be a bit of a challenge by the time November rolls around, but it applies to his supporters, as well.

Which makes sense mathematically. 90% of the Rs, plus the majority of right-leaning independents.

As I noted above, they're not going to bail on him when the only sources they have for news are telling them that nothing is ever Don's fault and that Democrats are blame for everything.

Bush's approval rating dove largely because of the financial crisis, when even conservatives bailed on him.

I think Trump's is higher in part because the perception (not necessarily reality) is that the economy is decent, unemployment is low, the stock market was up, etc. Of course, that's all in for a major test now with CV.

I also think that the GOP has become even more hyperpartisan and a lot of it is just kneejerk defense of "their" guy. Plus, he's given many what they wanted anyway - conservative judges, tax cuts, etc. They may not agree with his methods, but he's doing what they want.

and they sound relatively rational and focused. Then Trump shoves himself in front and starts blathering about how he's been abused and the media is mean to him and he is right always... and the market immediately drops, and so, I think, does his approval with anyone but his base.

He looks like an angry idiot.

'You don't know the numbers. YOU DON"T KNOW! You don't know!" There's all this aggression and gorilla dominance. I have the numbers and you don't!

No one who isn't already approving of him will approve now.

And he's saying the reporters should be farther away from each other, while he's hanging right over the other people on the stage.

I agree, though, if "he" sends checks out, some people might be swayed by that. So if that's going to be happening, I hope it's soon so that the effect wears off.

A lot of his support is because of "guns" or "socialism" or other such nonsense so they say they approve of him because of their ideological perspectives. But, to actually look at what he has done and say its good, one would have to have the reasoning ability of an amoeba to do that.

anti-Democrat.
They would support anyone as the alternative to the Democrats.
I think there are two main reasons for this: one, if you have spent your life hating the left you can’t consider switching at this point without feeling like a complete fool; and two, nothing else matters more than maintaining control of this country by white people.
LBJ said that we had lost the South for a generation when he signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act. We are now in the third generation since then and the South is still hostile, and every other state has its own group of hateful racists who are motivated by fear of losing control and privilege.
Let’s just be hopeful and thankful that the number seems to have a ceiling in the low 40s.

In my neighborhood it would be about 75%; in my state it will probably be 55%.
When someone addresses their allegiance to trump with “It’s so much better than it was under Obama,” you know there is a large supply of stupidity out there.

It is a fact of political life in the USA that Charles Manson, AFTER running down Hollywood Boulevard slashing the throats of passers-by on live television, would poll at 40% as long as there was an "R" after his name, and he repented as a Christian.

It is an advantage Republicans have that we do not, and frankly one I hope we never DO have.
