Well, it finally isnt funny anymore the grandiosity, the ignorance, the cruelty, the bullying, the racism, the petty insults and incessant stupidity. But especially the non-stop lying.
The greatest asset that a president can bring to a crisis is credibility.
On Day One of his presidency, Donald Trump chose to pick a fight with the media about the size of his inaugural crowd. On the morning of January 21, 2017, after fewer than 24 hours in office, Trump sent out Sean Spicer to tell the press corps a laughable and easily disprovable lie that Trumps crowd was the largest in history ever to attend a presidential inaugural.
The very next day, Kellyanne Conway let Americans know of the existence of something called alternative facts. Oh. So, thats how its going to be, huh?
Since then, the lies have come so fast and furious that keeping track has been impossible. How do you remember the last one when three or four equally ridiculous lies are almost certain to follow that day?

(81,466 posts)Thank you! I miss Al Franken a LOT. We need him speaking out more, and more publicly. We need him in front of cameras and microphones again. His viewpoint is URGENTLY needed to help us keep cutting through the crap and trump's nonstop snow-jobs.

Without Rush, without OReilly, without Hannity, without Newsmax, Breitbart, and InfoWars there would be no Trump.
Hate radio started over 30 years ago and our side has ignored it and still ignores it. We have let the right wing capture and control the narrative for over 30 years. This is why you see grown men wearing tee shirts that read "I'd rather be a Russian and a democrat." It's like the dems don't believe in marketing. I don't fucking get it.
And by the way, where is Bloomberg? Where are the ads showing the abysmal job the Con has done on this crisis? Is he waiting for our nominee to be announced?

Until 2013 we had a progressive talk radio station in Seattle for about five years called AM1090. I went to every fking event they held, wore their T-shirt, had their bumper sticker on my car, talk to everyone about the great programming (it wasn't all politics) and the station went away because the-then corporate owner of the station (CBS) changed it to the third all-talk sports show in Seattle -- https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/other-sports/seattle-gets-a-third-sports-radio-station-at-1090-am/. It was a RW move to shut down their competition and keep U.S. 'murikans uninformed and docile.
There are still a few progressive stations around the country in places like Chicago, SF, Ashville, and Minneapolis. Right now I listen to Thom Hartmann through the local college station -- www.kbcs.fm, and Randi Rhodes at her website. I also buy her podcast subscription so I can listen anytime. She is wicked smart and really does her homework: www.randirhodes.com

The article said the staffers were being allowed to keep their laptops in lieu of severance pay. It said they would have to pay income taxes on the worth of the laptops.

Those candidates are out, except one.
Sanders should bow out today as a patriotic duty. But....
Then no Franken assasin will be our president. My fervent hope is none of those that deposed Al, make VP either.
One can make a great A G though.

(54,437 posts)When it was 20 or so different candidates declaring for the Democratic nomination, I said from day one, I will not support ANY senator that publicly called for Al's resignation. I got trashed for it right and left (as recently as this week, in fact), but my position stands: anyone without the fortitude to stand up for Al during such a time, and under such circumstances, was just not someone I wanted as President. I just couldn't trust such a person to stick up for us in a dicey situation if one of their fellow Senators couldn't either. Fortunately, that appears to be a dilemma that will not crop up in November.

Now I have to be more circumspect with comments.
Political expediency and opportunism were afoot.

(81,578 posts)But for this crisis there is accountability. And instead of leading, Donald Trumps focus has been where it always has been on Donald Trump. I give myself a ten out of ten. We are very close to a vaccine. I dont take responsibility at all. Anybody who needs a test can get a test. And the tests are perfect. Like the letter was perfect. The transcript was perfect.
Of course, no leader could have prevented the devastation that this virus has and will continue to exact. But because Trumps focus has been on himself, his reelection, and his fragile self-image, our federal government squandered our most valuable commodity. And the amount of suffering which that lost time will cost our nation is as tragic as it is unknowable.
Trump will not step away. He will continue to take the stage and our focus but he will not be able to claim the credibility he never earned. We are left to proceed despite our president and find the leadership we need elsewhere. From governors and mayors and other civil servants. From health care professionals and scientists and economists. From community leaders and each other.

(833 posts)dump continues to talk about the "Chinese virus" to rile up the press and get reporters (and the rest of us) talking about his stupidity, racism--you name the idiocy. It's all a distraction so nobody is talking about how badly he's bungled the response to the coronavirus threat, the lack of ventilators, etc. Thank heaven a lot of people are talking about those things, anyway. The fact is that the man (term used loosely) is responsible for I-don't-know-how-many deaths.
