Still, at a more mature, diplomatic level through the UN or G8 or whatever, China does need to be pressured to eliminate those markets. SARS and I believe H1N1 were created in the same way. There was an hour about that on Fresh Air on NPR about a month ago. The conditions are so unsanitary that they're basically factories for creating zoonotic viruses.

They're corrupt and the wild animal trade makes lots of money. Chinese government policies greatly expanded and encouraged these markets. The market in Wuhan wasn't "underground".
