How unhealthy is it to be totally isolated?
Is it necessary?
If you and your family have been isolated for a couple of weeks and your closest neighbors have been isolated for a couple of weeks, and no one has been sick, would it be safe to meet with your closest friends?
In my opinion, we should guard against becoming too isolated.
My wife and I are probably the oldest folks on our block but we have had two or three neighbors call us to see if we need anything from the store or pharmacy and have kept in touch with us the last few days. We have been blessed with great neighbors.

(50,269 posts)It doesn't help the weather has been really lousy so we can't get outside. Fortunately, I'm kind of a hermit to begin with so I don't mind being alone, but I get restless and don't like being confined. If the weather turns around I'll go back to cleaning up the property and maybe planting a few bushes where we had trees removed. It helps to be able to come to a site like this to connect. I hope we all stay healthy because we need each other! And despite all my carping, I feel very lucky because we're in a rural setting and have a little land to roam around on. And, so far, despite being in the "elderly" group (makes me cringe because I'm 35 in my head), we're healthy.

If you have elderly neighbors and good weather, this is a great way to interact and let them feel less lonely.

(6,679 posts)Yes I stay a minimum of 10 feet away, leave my shoes in the entry, scrub up and then disinfect when coming in etc. I am fortunate that in and out doesn't require stairs, elevator etc used by others.
I am lucky.
