If the government passes the assistance checks, My opinion:

Obviously, millionaires do not need this check but for those of us who do, I believe this check--if it happens--should not be considered as taxable income.

We should not be penalized by the inept, uselessness of tRump and his cohorts.
They are responsible for the shortages for our health care workers. Now, if we are exposed, have no way no to be tested. Check, Yes, taxable, NO

This republican, disgusting man who now says he knew about this epidemic months ago, is responsible for the shortages.
This whole shortage mess should fall on his shoulders, not on ours in any way.

I read you won't get a thing as you did not file hence you are useless and not worthy of it.

I guess you could file retroactively perhaps.

Of course the rich will get their share per usual but the low income folks might not get a cent if they did not file!

When you get to the end before you hit "submit", you avoid the hidden not-so-free charges.

I printed it out and made a copy of it and mailed it in at the end of Jan. of this year.

Last year, I filled the forms out my myself which was fairly simple being I have a straightforward return.

I always file a Federal return but I am exempt from filing at the State level due to my low income status.

The Federal return provides proof of annual income should you need it, so I always file if for no other reason but this.

Here is the link for Turbo Tax Free Edition which I used to file my 2019 return:

Best of luck everyone!!

I've been in this boat for 25 years now due to a progressive disease.

Living with not much of an income, you learn quickly how to survive.

If you don't learn, you won't make it.

Best of luck to everyone regardless!

Take care and thank you!

Are screwing over the American people with their version to help people , and it's so low this won't work stimulating the economy instead it's putting us closer to a depression . Trump was lying when he claimed he was going big, really big he claimed that knowing he was screwing us over.

In two months singles will have 2400 and families at least 4800. However, I’m convinced they will send checks through summer. They won’t have a choice. I still think a 6000 dollar check for single and a 12 thousand dollar check for families would do a great thing for the economy and people in general. But for whatever reason they thing peacemeal will work better.

There are ways the government could charge each of us for the full value of the checks they send us, not just charging them as income.

With Trump's crew, anything nefarious is likely.

This fictional clip from The West Wing illustrates my point, (the explanation I was thinking of comes at the 2:20 mark):

I loved that TV show. My wife calls it my fairy tale!

They easily could make this an advance on 2020 refunds.

Hope our side has enough sense to make sure they don't

9. The case for making it taxable...

...is that the tax code is progressive. Which means that the poorest people would pay no tax on it, people with middle incomes would pay some tax on it, people with high incomes would pay the highest tax on it. If they really send it to everyone (no means testing), if someone making 6 figures gets a check, they can likely afford to pay the tax on it, rather than adding still more to the debt.
