2. I had a boss that used to do that.

It was his way of getting an unwilling response from us, usually for some lame joke or completely obvious observation. He'd make the statement, no one would say anything, then he would repeat, "I say (lame remark)", and we'd have to laugh or respond.

He was actually a good boss but that was a kind of steamroller technique he had.
