We are living a real life Trolley Problem

For those that need an reminder of what it is.

We are trying to save as many lives as possible, but to do so we must put the lives of many more in distress. This could include their livelihoods, their homes and their families.

There is no right answer to the Trolley Problem. just a way at looking at moral choices.

Something I was thinking about because this is the kind of shit that comes to mind when you are staying in place.

... about a policy. Presumably you don't want a policy that puts the decision about the one vs five patients in the hands of each surgeon/ethics committee. But in a pandemic (or the case of switching the tracks), you're not establishing a policy for the ordinary operation of a hospital. In the case of pushing someone in front of the train, there's something to be said about preserving the sanction against taking a life. I'd switch the tracks, but not push the guy. I think...
