Cuomo v. Newsom

Re: Questions about why Cuomo has been so out there while Newsom has been MIA from the national scene.

Answer: Cuomo has effectively begun a presidential run for '24 or '28. This crisis provided him with a golden opportunity to show leadership at the national level.

Newsom doesn't seen to have any serious presidential ambitions and is content to run his own state quietly and effectively.

That my hypothesis, anyway.

7. It's really about east coast bias.

NYC is the world headquarters of the crisis and the media. I just checked his twitter feed and it's clear Newsome has been holding daily press conferences too. He's just not getting the attention for it.

3. Newsom has been speaking to the public. It hasn't been carried on national/cable news like Cuomo.

East coast news media bias. The major national networks are all based in New York, and his pressers are held at times which work well for preempting their other programming (most Americans live in the Eastern and Central time zones), whereas Newsom's have not. That's my hypothesis.

4. That may be it, but we need leadership at this time, we are certainly not getting it from

The moron in chief. I am glad Cuomo is doing what he is doing. You get the feeling when he's on, that somebody is in charge and although we are in for a rough go, we can survive this because somebody is looking out for us. You don't get that from Trump. He's out there trying to stroke his own ego.

He looks very put upon. As if he might be genuinely worried or just feels he is being dragged into something he doesn't want to be his responsibility.

11. Not my take at all. He's doing his job as gov. and doing it well.

Apparently you haven't watched him for any length of time as he provides good, practical information and instruction in a calming, reassuring way—what trump should be doing.

Trump press Corp doesn’t pay attention. The 30+ million people who live here are definitely listening to Newsom.

that is why I see Cuomo first. Plus, I live in NY and his updates and press conferences are more topical so I look for that. The local channels won't be carrying Newsom's press conferences for obvious reasons.

I also get the updates via email and my county updates via text.
